Hults Bruk – Yankee Pattern – Pre 1988

Just picked up my first HB! “Made in Sweden” stamp is either missing, or removed. The head doesn’t look like its been worked on before. Was there a period of time without “Made in Sweden” stamping? And there was a composite compound sealing the eye, is this factory original? Or added later?

The blue paint and red epoxy in the eye means this axe was part of the Agdor line, made after the 1960s and before 1988. Introduced in 1958, AGDORFIX involved permanently bonding the handles to the axe head with a red epoxy like substance. The substance would also penetrate the wood and prevent moisture. AGDORFIX was tough stuff, it often needs to be drilled and pried out before a new handle can be fitted. If you find an old HB axe with red epoxy in the eye, it was probably made after 1958 and before the late 1980s.
