Hults Bruk – Arvika 5 Star – pre 1988

I was looking for an axe and was told to not buy from a store but to check local garage sales. We looked for 2hrs for a garage sale and came across 1 to find this Axe for $20 Australian. I was wondering if you could identify further?

A friend of ours has told us it’s from the original factory with original Handle. So it seems we got a really good find. We are getting it sharpened and cleaned this week can’t wait to start using it 🙂

    I’m pretty sure this axe is an Arvika 5 Star. Based on the 2kg axe head weight, the red paint on the grip, and the secondary bevels on the axe cheeks. The Arvika 5 Star is a racing pattern axe made for Australian hardwoods. The maker’s mark stamp is the HB cold stamp, putting the manufacturing date before 1988. It’s hard to put an exact date on this without more info. Was the axe head epoxied to the handle? Thanks for sharing!

    It’s definitely an Arvika Five Star. The Tasmanian pattern was based on professional racing axes and meant for the lumber industry. Hults Bruk didn’t take over the Arvika brand until after 1960. So it was made sometime between 1960 and 1988.

    I love broad felling/bucking axes, they make your work easier. Mr Hults Bruk we need you to restart producing Tasmanians! 😉

    This pattern head is absolutely amazing. This would be my go to tool. Very good find. The long edge bit bursts chips.

    I’d be interested in seeing more Tasmanian pattern axes. I don’t have the money to cough up for a racing axe, but I like the wide bit.

    And, for contest purposes, this is my favorite axe. Though they didn’t make it easy. 😛

    Hello partners;
    I am a regular reader of this site and I find it very interesting.
    I have a question to ask you, to see if someone could identify me with this ax that has recently come to my hands.
    I think it’s a Hukt Bruks because it puts HB and puts 2.0. 4 1/2.
    I have seen in previous post that they have asked for one that is very similar to mine.
    Can you know the price approximately ??
    Greetings and many thanks.
    Miguel Ruiz
