Hults Bruk – Arivka 5 Star – 1960s
This is an axe I got wile on a rd trip on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia Canada, the Sunshine coast is known for its long time logging activities/industry. I was please to find it and at the price I got it, I didn’t really know what I was buying other than it was somewhat old and I knew that by the handle, that is less bulky and more “refined” than what you find on today’s axe! the axe is basically new old stock, I just had to sharpen it and make a leather sheet! I think it is from the mid to late 60′ but confirmation would be great!

Hults Bruk Arvika 5 Star Pre 1988
So it appears that I have happened upon a real gem at a yard sale in Northeastern Connecticut, USA. I saw the axe almost from the road, it was one of three, and as the CT pattern is my favorite pattern, I thought I was in for a treat.
As I walked up I came to realize that the owner spray painted all his tools to prevent rust. This axe was no different and it was hard to make out too much, but I could see enough to know it looked swedish, which baffled me because I had never heard of a swedish Connie.
So after a little wire wheeling, it appears to be a Hults Bruk Arvika Five Star axe.
My questions are many, but the main one is, what exactly is this axe? What was it intended for? What pattern is it, what is its age, what was its intended market, really any info at all would be appreciated.
I wonder how it came to be in Connecticut?
Interestingly enough, if the gentleman who I bought it from was its first owner, I don’t think it’s been used. It certainly shows age, but the spray paint wasn’t blemished, clearly indicating it has not been used since painting, the bit looks like it has a factory bevel, and all the other edges are sharp and ding-free.

Hults Bruk – Arvika 5 Star – pre 1988
I was looking for an axe and was told to not buy from a store but to check local garage sales. We looked for 2hrs for a garage sale and came across 1 to find this Axe for $20 Australian. I was wondering if you could identify further?
A friend of ours has told us it’s from the original factory with original Handle. So it seems we got a really good find. We are getting it sharpened and cleaned this week can’t wait to start using it 🙂
