Added October 16, 2017 to 1970s, Agdor

Hults Bruk Agdor Hatchet – circa 1970s

Got this for $7 at the salvation army. It came with the white sheath, which I doubt is original. Looks like someone tried to repair the handle connection with glue or epoxy. Any tips on fixing the handle to its original condition?

$7 is a great deal for that 1970s Agdor hatchet. The red stuff on the eye of the axe is the original permabond – marketed in the 1970s as “Agdorfix”. The paint, stickers, and stamp also put production around the 1970s.

For the handle fix check Jared’s blog post on selecting the proper handle size. The size of the axe eyes have changed over the years, so you’ll want to be sure the new handle fits. At the bottom of the page is a link to a US supplier for new HB axe handles, if you want to go that route. Thanks for sharing.

The original handle is in great shape still. I would try to drill/ pull the wedge and just drop the head lower on the shoulder. There’s plenty of room.

    Cheers.

Love to find something like this! I like the red on the handle quite a bit. I have the Kisa Axe and love it.

This seems like a great size to do some backcountry camping. Would love to see it used in action.
