How old? Sometime between the 1950s and 1988, based on the paint and font probably closer to 1960-70s
Replace or keep it original? Tough to say without knowing if the handle is cracked, it looks like . The head is loose because the wood has shrunk and dried out. Left untreated for years, the wood has probably degraded. You can always repaint the handle to look like the original.
