Hults Bruk – Yankee Pattern – Pre 1988

This is the first HB I have had the pleasure of restoring. I’m wondering what the fraction stamp under the “0,8” reads and refers to. It looks like “1 0/4”. Any other information would be appreciated but I understand that this is a cold stamped head and pre-1988 so could have been made in any year between then and 1900. Under the rust, was blue paint. I’d love to know if there is a specific type of blue used and a specific type of paint. At first, I thought theĀ axe‘s edge had been sharpened or shaped incorrectly by whoever used it previously but realized once I got it off that it was just upside down. It would be nice to know what length of handle thisĀ axe would’ve come with as I have some cherry that I’ll use for that. Thanks.

This looks like a Yankee pattern axe made between the 1970s and 1988. Older HB stamps include the circle HB logo and text with “Hults Bruk” “Hults Bruk ABY”. Sometime in the 1970s it changed to the circle HB and “Made in Sweden”. The fraction stamp is the head weight in kg. and lbs. 0.8 kg and 1 3/4 lbs. The blue paint is for the Agdor line of axes – Wede Shopprimer blue matt 5 and the top coating is Abolit clear lacquer gloss 90. This size axe is sold with a 20-inch or 26-inch handle. Hope this helps, thanks for sharing
