Hults Bruk – Hewing / Carpenter’s Axe – 1900s

Have an older axe, I assume for a carpenter when building houses. I have no idea of any experience with the rear upright pin, does anyone mean if it caught on a branch they hit it with a sledgehammer to get through the branch!
Curious about the age, use, function of the pin and whether it is an extension later?

Unusual. Made in the late 1800s. Carpenter’s axes at this time had a hammer at the end of the poll. Often this was used for roofing to shape the shingles and tap them into place, see page 33: http://hultsbruk1697.se/vintage-axes-hatchets/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/1890s-Hults-Bruk-Catalog-ilovepdf-compressed.pdf
Except this is more of a hewing axe with a long blade for shaping wood. Usually the roofing axes were narrow, about the size of a shingle. So this is a bit of a hybrid perhaps? Great find, thanks for sharing!
