Ben nailed it with the pattern. I’m guessing this is at least 60-80 years old. I’m trying to figure out when HB stopped making this one, shows up in the 1800s catalogues then is gone by the 1950s.

This axe is called a Götaland pattern. They’re carpenters axes. I couldn’t tell you a date though.

Like the design of this axe, obviously a lot of thought went into trying to produce a tool that had more than 1 use!

Really interesting pattern. I too, wonder what the notch was for on this axe. I don’t think it was for opening bottles
