Hults Bruk – Hewing Axe – Pre 1988

Hello, I have an old HB hatchet, the origins of which I am unsure. I’ve had it for several years but never looked closely at it until recently when I had it sharpened. As I was sanding the handle and cleaning the head I noticed the maker’s mark. There are no markings of any kind elsewhere. The handle was painted red at the base and the head has blue paint.  Thank you!

This is a broad axe for hewing, the closest pattern it resembles is the Pittsburg pattern. More recently it was just called a broad axe. This style was discontinued sometime in the early 1980s. The best guess is this axe was made between the late 1950s and 1988, it also has blue paint from the Agdor line.

thats a model 54 size 3 agdor line. it is offset to one side typically for right hand hewing. (for carving a flat side on a round log)
