Hults Bruk Turpentine Axe Head – 1900s

This axe head is marked with a barely visible circle with the “H”, “HULTS BRUK ÅBY” and “X”. There is also a very small diamond shaped mark.

that diamond shaped mark appears on axes from several different manufacturers, and i’ve been told by folks more educated than me that they are indexing devices for sharpening.

    great lookin’ axe, friend!

That is a very old Turpentine model. The H and Hults Bruk ABY cold stamp were used between 1884 and 1930. Not sure what the X is about. The diamond stamp is to align the axe with a sharpening tool. Hults would later round the lugs on the Turpentine design. That axe is an heirloom, thanks for sharing!
